Stunning One of A Kind Diamond Butterfly Brooch / Pendant Created by Master Jewelers Marcus and Co.

18K Gold, Old European Cut Diamonds.  The pin clasp can be removed by gently turning a hidden screw. White gold surrounding the diamonds on the front, yellow gold on the back.

The drawing is an extract from the archives of the jeweler's design books which are part of the permanent collection at the Dartmouth College Library. This butterfly was included in the first volume dated 1890's.  It was a one of kind brooch likely created as a commission.

Marcus & Company, founded by William Elder Marcus and later joined by George Marcus and their father, Herman, a German-born former employee of Tiffany & Co., began as a partnership with George B. Jacques as Jacques & Marcus. The business changed its name to Marcus & Co. with the retirement of Jacques in 1892.
